Career Information

CIVIL ENGINEERING is very diverse and offers career opportunities in Structural Engineering - design of buildings, bridges, highways, railways, airports, sports stadia and offshore oil platforms; Geotechnical Engineering ¡V design of foundations for onshore and offshore structures, retaining walls, dams, excavations and tunneling; Hydraulic Engineering ¡V design of structures in rivers and the sea, e.g. ports and harbours, and pipe networks for water and gas supply and sewage disposal; and Construction Engineering which involves costing, planning and scheduling construction processes.

RESOURCE ENGINEERING incorporates Mining Engineering - concerned with extracting ore from the ground and Mineral Processing Engineering - extracting mineral from the ore. The mining industry is Australia¡¦s largest single exporter (including gold, iron, nickel and diamonds) and one of the biggest industries in the world.

Civil and Resource Engineers have the opportunity to
