Internet AccessAccess to the internet from the Undergraduate Computer Lab is controlled by the university IT Services (ITS), formerly Univerisity Computing Service (UCS). All internet traffic is now authenticated by the ITS proxy server. If you try to access a site outside of the university, you will be prompted for a username and password. The username and password are the same as your UWA Assigned Username and Password (previously Tartarus email account). However, for your username and passwords to work, you must have upgraded your UWA student (Tartarus) account to ‘full access’ and must have sufficient funds on your account to proceed. To upgrade your account or add money to it, contact the student services at ITS. If your account has not been upgraded yet, you will need to make an application to ITS, which will also include attending a short seminar detailing the system. Go here for more details. PrintingSemester-based print quota is allocated to students enrolled in Civil and Resource Engineering's level 2, 3, 4, 7 and 8 units. The current quota is: 25 pages or $2.75 per level 2 and 3 unit 50 pages or $5.50 per level 4 unit 100 pages or $11.00 for level 7 and 8 units (for Masters by course)
Please note any unused quota will NOT roll over to next semester. New quota will be set at the beginning of each semester based on your enrolment data. Once you have used up your free quota you will need to pay if you want to print more before new quota is allocated. The cost of A4 printing per page is 11 cents (Incl. GST) if you pay using your campus card. Transaction money can be added to your campus card through the unicard autoloaders located in the university libraries. The lab printers are accessible to both lab computers and students personal laptops, provided that you have set up one or more network printers properly on your laptop. NOTE: Printing multiple pages to the one sheet of paper will incur the total multiple page cost. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about this, so please bear this in mind when you print multiple copies. See the FAQ for more details. Printing from Lab computers1. Print your work, as per normal, selecting either Printer1, Printer2 or Printer3. Printer2 in the Central Bay has been setup as the default printer, though you may choose another if you wish. 2. Go to the print station, choose the printer to which you sent your print job from the printer list. Jobs are automatically deleted after 30 minutes in the printer queue if they have not been printed. 3. Find your job and double click it. Jobs are identified by the computer name or IP address. A job information window should now open. 4. On the "Please Insert Funds" click "Account" between the "Cancel" and "OK" buttons to bring up the Enter Account Information box. 5. Enter your civil lab username (i.e. your UWA assigned username) in the "Please Enter Exact Name" field and your student number in the "Please Enter PIN#" field and then click "OK" to print. (You can also check your account balance using the "Account Balance" button on the same window.) 6. If you don't have any quota left insert your campus card into the card reader and click 'OK' to pay for the print job. 7. Your job should now print. Printing from Laptops1. Install one or more networked printers on your laptop. Detailed procedure can be found on the "Connecting Personal Laptops" page 2.
