Research Degrees

The School of Civil and Resource Engineering offers research opportunities for postgraduate study leading to Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Engineering Science degrees, all by research.

The degree of PhD is a supervised research degree. A PhD thesis must be a substantial and original contribution to scholarship, demonstrating mastery of the subject of concern as well as a furthering of understanding in that fields of knowledge. The degree may be taken full time or part time. For full time candidates, the maximum period of study is four years. Click here for more detail about the course.

The Master of Engineering Science (Research) is a broad-based degree which allows students to pursue research topics in a range of discipline from engineering and mathematical science. It is of shorter duration than the PhD degree and can be completed in one to two years full time or up to four year part time. It is designed to give candidates research experience over a short period of time. Click here for further information about the course.

There are no fees for PhD or Master’s students who are Australian residents. All international students are required to pay tuition fees for their research programme at UWA. Tuition fees are fixed for the duration of the course. Current rates for postgraduate degree courses are available at http://www.admin.uwa.edu.au/ic/pgfees.asp
