You can connect your personal laptop in our undergraduate computer lab using either a wired or wireless connection.

For a wired connection plug your network cable into one of the ports along the corridor wall labelled "SNAP Ports".

For wireless connections just make sure your wireless network is on. The password for connecting SNAP wireless network is "12345".

Logon to SNAP using your SNAP password.

Create a UWA Civil Student VPN connection (Windows XP)

  1. Click Start, then select Control Panel.
  2. Click "Network and Internet Connections".
  3. Click "Create a connection to the network at your workplace".
  4. In the New Connection Wizard window, select "Virtual Private Network connection", then click Next.
  5. In the box under "Type a name for this connection in the following box.", type a descriptive name, such as "UWA Civil Student VPN". Click Next.
  6. In the box under "Host Name or IP address", type "student-vpn.civil.uwa.edu.au" (without quotes).

Printing

If you want to print to one of the networked printers in the lab go to Start>>Run>>Type \\tinglewood in the empty field>>Click on "OK" to run the command. If prompted for username and password, type ‘guest’ and leave password field empty and click on "OK". Then a window should open in which the three shared printers (either Printer1, Printer2 and Printer3) and a few folders are listed.  Double-click on any of the shared printers to install them.

Once connected follow the instructions for printing from lab computers.

Please note the networked printers may not work properly on Windows Vista because the driver installed on the printer server is not compatible with Vista.

Shared folders

If you want to access the shared folders on the lab server (such as Public, Notes and Student Software) go to Start>>Run>>Type \\driftwood in the empty field>>Click on "OK" to run the command. If prompted for username and password, type in your lab username and password to log onto the server. Then a window should open with the shared folders listed in it. Double-click on the shared folder you want to access to open it.
