The UWA Civil Engineering Futures Foundation wishes to attract high-quality undergraduate students into the major of Civil Engineering.
A laptop scheme has been established by the Futures Foundation in conjunction with the School of Civil and Resource Engineering to equip every student entering the Civil Engineering stream in 2009 with a laptop to assist in coursework and undergraduate projects research.
The Terms and Conditions that apply to the use of the UWA Civil Engineering Futures Foundation Laptops are as follows:
- The laptop scheme is open to students who start the second-year Civil Engineering program for the first time in 2009; have completed 48 points study towards the BE or a BE combined degree; possess Good Standing status; and are enrolled in the Civil Engineering program at the first semester 2009 HECS census date. Eligibility for the scheme will be determined by the School and Futures Foundation at their absolute discretion.
- The laptop will remain the legal property of UWA for the duration of the student’s studies at UWA. At the successful completion of the Civil Engineering program ownership will be transferred to the student.
- The UWA computer and software use regulations shall apply whilst the computer remains the lagal property of UWA.
- Certain university-licensed software will be installed on the laptop. The School and Futures Foundation give no guarantee of continued availability of service and support of this software. Students warrant that all university licensed software will be removed at the completion of their Civil Engineering program.
- The School and Futures Foundation will not be liable for any lost data or damage (including direct, indirect, consequential, and incidental) to the laptop for any reason. Students are advised to seek their own property insurance. Should the laptop be lost, damaged stolen or in any other way disposed of or rendered un-usable, it will not be replaced under this scheme.
- Users warrant that the usage of the university laptop does not breach any law or the right of any person. The School and Futures Foundation will not be held liable for any misconduct by a user of a computer supplied under this scheme.
- Intellectual Property on the university laptop may not be modified, copied, displayed, performed, reproduced, republished, uploaded, posted, transmitted or distributed in any way without the express permission of the School and Futures Foundation.
- Should a student withdraw or be excluded without completing the Civil Engineering program or transfer to another program, the student shall return the laptop. At the discretion of the School and Futures Foundation, the student may be offered the opportunity to purchase the laptop at book value.
- The School and Futures Foundation reserve the right to revise these Terms and Conditions at any time.
