The Dr Ken Michael Scholarship for Postgraduate Study in Civil Engineering
($20,000 p.a. tax free for up to 2 years) Proudly Provided by Main Roads Western Australia


Applications are invited to apply for the inaugural Dr Ken Michael Scholarship. This scholarship provides an  allowance for a student undertaking the Master of Civil Engineering full-time.

The scholarship is awarded to the applicant who best demonstrates in their application and supporting documentation:

(a) academic achievement;
(b) the merit of the research proposal; and
(c) how the research will advance the study of civil/structural engineering as it pertains to the construction and maintenance or roads in Western Australia.

Prospective applicants should make contact with prospective supervisors in the School of Civil and Resource Engineering at the University of Western Australia when developing their research proposal and before submitting their application.

Applications must include a covering letter, a certified academic transcript and a research proposal for the dissertation component of the Master of Civil Engineering course. Applications should be submitted to the Faculty Office of the Faculty of Engineering Computing and Mathematics before 4:30pm on 31st July 2008. This scholarship is offered by Main Roads Western Australia, a major statutory organisation responsible for the stewardship of the State's $28 billion road network.  Main Roads is the State's road operations agency located within the Planning and Infrastructure Portfolio, responsible for total asset management of the road network, and project delivery associated with the expansion of the network and traffic and road user management. 

They are entrusted with providing access to one of the largest geographically spread road networks in the world, covering over 2.5 million square kilometres, with a matching diversity in climate and road user needs.
 
The successful applicant will conduct research that will advance the study of civil or structural engineering as it pertains to the maintenance and construction of roads in Western Australia. 

The Honourable Dr Ken Michael, Governor of Western Australia and former Main Roads Commissioner is a patron of the scholarship and will play a key role in deciding the inaugural recipient of this scholarship.
